Women Leading in Local Government

Women Leading in Local Government

York Economic Alliance WBCO Luncheon | March 2026

Technology Council of Central Pennsylvania Community Engagement Specialist Jazmin Slaughter attended the York Economic Alliance’s Women’s Business Center Organization (WBCO) Luncheon Series event at Heritage Hills Resort in York.

The discussion, titled “From Community Member to Community Leader: Women Sharing Their Paths into Local Government,” focused on the experiences of women serving in local government and the challenges and opportunities that come with public leadership.

A key takeaway from the panel was the importance of community involvement as the foundation of leadership. Many of the speakers emphasized that their journeys began simply by attending local meetings, advocating for issues they cared about, and becoming active participants in their communities.

Panelists also highlighted the responsibility of leadership in government — balancing compassion with tough decision-making while prioritizing what is best for the community.

Events like this help encourage civic engagement and inspire future leaders to take an active role in shaping their communities across Pennsylvania.
